How can we help?
Most questions are about getting Breathfirst to find you at the right moment. Start here, and write to us if you're stuck.
Setting it up
How do I add Breathfirst to my Lock Screen?
Touch and hold your Lock Screen, tap Customize, choose the Lock Screen, then tap the widget area and add Breathfirst. One tap on it starts a pause straight away.
How do I add it to Control Center or the Action Button?
Control Center (iOS 18 and later): open Control Center, touch and hold an empty space, tap Add a Control and search for Breathfirst.
Action Button (iPhone 15 Pro and later, iOS 18): open Settings, then Action Button, swipe to Shortcut and choose Start a pause. Press and hold whenever you need a minute.
How do pauses work when I open an app?
On iPhone (iOS 18 and later), Breathfirst uses a Shortcuts automation: when you open an app you choose, Pip gets there first with a short 30-second pause. You can skip it after 5 seconds.
To set it up: open Shortcuts, tap Automation, then New Automation → App. Pick your apps, choose Is Opened and Run Immediately, then add the Breathfirst action Pause before an app and type the app's name.
After you choose “Keep going”, that app opens straight away for 15 minutes, so you're never stuck in a loop. You can also pause these interruptions until tomorrow. The app name you type stays on your phone.
What about Android?
Add the Breathfirst home screen widget, or the Quick Settings tile: swipe down twice, tap the edit (pencil) button and drag Breathfirst into your tiles.
Android doesn't let one app pause another as it opens, so app-open pauses are iPhone-only for now. The tile keeps a breath one swipe away instead.
During a pause
I can't feel the haptics.
Check that system haptics are on in your phone's Sounds & Haptics settings, and try a stronger intensity in Breathfirst's settings. Low Power Mode can soften vibrations on some phones.
What is eyes-closed mode?
The screen dims to black and the haptics lead: a rising hum as you breathe in, a falling hum as you let it go, and two soft taps when you're done. On phones with rich haptics, or with the voice guide on, it becomes the default after your first session. You can change that in settings.
Can a voice guide me?
Yes. Turn on Voice guide in Settings and a calm voice says each breath: “Breathe in”, “A little more”, “Breathe out”. It plays even with your ringer on silent, and never narrates over the breath.
The pace feels too fast or too slow.
You can set the pace anywhere from 0.8x to 1.3x. Breathfirst remembers it for each pattern. Easy breaths, your own pace.
I felt dizzy or uncomfortable.
Stop and breathe normally. Stop if you feel dizzy or uncomfortable. This is a guided pause, not medical care. Seek help for unexplained breathing problems. More about the breathing.
The app
Can I send a pause to someone?
Yes. After a pause, or in Settings, tap Send someone a pause. They get a link to a 30-second breath with Pip that works in any browser, no download needed.
Is it really free?
Yes. No subscription, no ads, no account. Breathfirst is made by the Nuffo team.
Do I lose my history if I change phones?
Your history lives only on your phone. It moves with your device's own backup and restore; we don't keep a copy. See Privacy.
Is Breathfirst a treatment for anxiety?
No. Breathfirst is a guided pause, not medical care. If you are struggling or in crisis, please contact a health professional or your local emergency number.
